When cancer is both detected early and combined with the proper treatment, your chances of surviving beyond 5 years past your diagnosis greatly improve. Unfortunately, many cancers don’t show signs or symptoms until they’ve advanced to later stages. They’re detected much later on, and at that point, your treatment options are more limited. Some cancers are only detected when it’s too late for treatment to increase your chances of survival.
The Galleri® Test
Our practice is now offering a multi-cancer early detection test called Galleri® that detects 50 types of cancer with a simple blood draw.
The Galleri® cancer test is recommended for use in adults with an elevated risk for cancer, such as those aged 50 or older. The Galleri® test is intended to detect cancer signals and predict where in the body the cancer signal is located. The test claims that the test has a very low false-positive rate of 0.5%. The test claims an 83% accuracy rate in predicting the location and directing the diagnostic workup needed for the cancer the test locates. However, the Galleri® test does not detect all cancers and should be used in addition to routine cancer screening tests.
Getting The Galleri® Test at Progressive Health Primary Care
We offer the Galleri® cancer test to current members of Progressive Health Primary Care only. Patients should call the office to schedule their appointment.
The Galleri® test is a simple blood test collected in our office . We’ll send your blood sample to an outside lab for processing. Test results take about 10 business days to get back. We’ll call you to walk you through your results and recommend any follow ups or next steps to take depending on your results.
The Cost of The Galleri® Test
The Galleri® test costs $995. We do not have any financial association with the makers of Galleri®, nor do we collect the fee. Our office simply collects the specimen and provides the results for you. Unfortunately, it’s not covered by health insurance. If you have an FSA or HSA account through your employer, you may be able to use it to pay for the test. Please check with your plan administrator to see if you’re eligible.
Important Safety Information
The Galleri test is recommended for use in adults with an elevated risk for cancer, such as those aged 50 or older. The Galleri test does not detect all cancers and should be used in addition to routine cancer screening tests recommended by a healthcare provider. Galleri is intended to detect cancer signals and predict where in the body the cancer signal is located. Use of Galleri is not recommended in individuals who are pregnant, 21 years old or younger, or undergoing active cancer treatment. Results should be interpreted by a healthcare provider in the context of medical history, clinical signs and symptoms. A test result of “Cancer Signal Not Detected” does not rule out cancer. A test result of “Cancer Signal Detected” requires confirmatory diagnostic evaluation by medically established procedures (e.g. imaging) to confirm cancer. If cancer is not confirmed with further testing, it could mean that cancer is not present or testing was insufficient to detect cancer, including due to the cancer being located in a different part of the body. False-positive (a cancer signal detected when cancer is not present) and false-negative (a cancer signal not detected when cancer is present) test results do occur. Rx only.
