When cancer is both detected early and combined with the proper treatment, your chances of surviving beyond 5 years past your diagnosis greatly improve. Unfortunately, many cancers don’t show signs or symptoms until they’ve advanced to later stages. They’re detected much later on, and at that point, your treatment options are more limited. Some cancers are only detected when it’s too late for treatment to increase your life expectancy.
Cancer Blood Screening Tests
Cancer blood screening tests offer a way to detect multiple types of cancer from a simple blood draw. This includes some types of cancer that do not have other recommended screening tests, such as ovarian, pancreatic, and liver cancer. Importantly, cancer blood screening tests do not replace other methods of cancer screening. A negative test result does not mean cancer free. If you are on a routine screening schedule, for example periodic colonoscopies to screen for colon cancer, you should continue to do them.
Cancer Blood Screening Tests at Progressive Health Primary Care
We offer a variety of cancer blood screening tests to current members of Progressive Health Primary Care only. You should make an appointment to discuss whether testing is appropriate for you.
The tests all use a simple blood sample collected in our office. We’ll send your sample to an outside lab for processing. Test results typically take 2 – 3 weeks depending on the manufacturer. We’ll call you to walk you through your results and recommend any follow ups or next steps to take depending on your results.
The Cost of Cancer Blood Screening Tests
The cost of a test is the responsibility of each patient. Each manufacturer charges their own cost. We do not have any financial association with the manufacturers, nor do we collect the fee. Our office simply collects the specimen and provides the results for you. Unfortunately, they’re not covered by health insurance. If you have an FSA or HSA account through your employer, you may be able to use it to pay for the test. Please check with your plan administrator to see if you’re eligible.
